When you get married, you always hope it will last forever. Some do, some don\u2019t. But as two children of divorce, Ray and I made a vow that we took exceptionally seriously.  So when our 25th<\/sup> anniversary approached,  longer than both sets of our parents made it, I knew we would celebrate big time.  When July rolled around, Ray told me to block of 10 days in October but wouldn\u2019t tell me where we were going.  Knowing he can\u2019t keep many secrets from me, I thought he would cave quickly with excitement. He lasted until a couple of days before my birthday in September, and told me we were going to the land of fire and ice\u2026 Iceland!  My international travel thus far has been limited to Canada and Mexico.  Mid-September he started to get nervous that he could not pack well for me, so he caved and told me where we were going.  Thank you, Mr. Amazon, I quickly ordered cold weather clothes for the trip, with average highs being in the low 30s and my cold weather gear was more designed for midnight calf checks rather than European travel.  He finally sent me the boarding pass when we were on the way to the Tulsa airport, and I realized he had booked us in first class!!!  I was astounded.<\/p>\n

We flew to Boston via St Louis for the first leg and arrived in Boston late Sunday night.\u00a0 Monday at noon, we were boarding first class to Keflavik. We were greeted with the most comfortable airplane seats I\u2019ve ever experienced, along with welcome gifts, snacks and pillow, and blankets. We were served a 5 star meal including lamb prosciutto, duck salad, free alcohol and a roast brisket (though it was way more like roast than brisket.)\u00a0 We watched a movie and took a nap and landed at about 9 p.m. local time and headed to the rental car checkout and hotel in Kef for the night.\u00a0 We rented a \u00a04-wheel drive diesel Dacia, similar to a Subaru outback, but maybe a slightly lower end version. It was comfortable and a standard \u2013 Ray loved driving it.<\/p>\n

We were pretty hungry when we got done at the airport, so we googled what might be open at that hour at night, and found an all-night convenience store. These are not the same as convenience stores in America, more like mini grocers. \u00a0Ray got a salmon and egg hoagie and I got a chocolate protein shake, as my stomach had not been settled all day.\u00a0 We headed to our hotel, ate and hit the hay.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When we woke up, my stomach had completely revolted. We stopped at a local bakery, a Bakkery, and ordered a breakfast sandwich. One bite and i was running for the bathroom to throw up. I texted our Danish son, and asked what was the way to get help and he explained that anti-nausea meds were over the counter there and called Postafin. Luckily, there was a pharmacy in the parking lot of our hotel and I was able to get Postafin and in a couple of hours, felt much better.<\/p>\n
